Camp Three: Part Five.

Thursday morning of Camp Three was spent doing service activities in our community as a part of our overall chapel theme of faith and acts.

Two of the groups loading the bus - one went down into Sherwood to help decorate their community center for homecoming. Another group went to St. Mary's Convent in Sewanee to help tend the lavender garden for Thistle Farms and their organic vegetable garden.

The other group went to the nursing home across the street from us. They first learned about caring for elderly people and practiced songs to sing:

Here's some of the group that went to the convent... first, visiting the gardens where they grow ingredients for their jams and jellies:

After service it was lunch time!

Mail call!

Then we went into Sewanee to swim at Lake Cheston:

A group also played volleyball:

Then we headed back to campus for our slip n slide. Nothing like a huge tarp, water, and a ton of soap to brighten the day!

Later that night after a mandatory shower time in cabins and then dinner, we had cabin skits and coffee house:

And that was Thursday!

Camp Three: Part Four.

Wednesday of Camp Gailor-Maxon is a big day - we spend the afternoon and night in Sewanee, the college campus down the road from our camp. But before we do that, we have the typical camp morning...

After breakfast we headed back to the cabins to cleanup for the golden dustpan...

Making the bed is hard when you're on a bunk:

Then it was time for chapel. On Tuesday we placed pictures of faith and works on our continuum. All June the campers have been placing quotes and now pictures on this long piece of paper to represent the balance of faith and works. Wednesday morning we explained the meaning of the various pictures.

Then we sang some more songs -

Father Terry Street from St. Philip in the Diocese of West Tennessee is our priest in residence this week. Here he is praying with us:

In family groups we did a scavenger hunt to find puzzle pieces. The puzzles represented various statues at the Chartes Cathedral.

Then for morning activities time we had both arts and crafts and pool:

After siesta in the afternoon we went onto the campus in Sewanee to play. We spent some time in All Saint's Chapel:

We also played on the Quad:

Then we went on a nature walk through Abbo's Alley, a trail on campus.

We ended the walk in the field and had a picnic:

Then we walked back up to All Saints where we had a service:

After that we went to the War Memorial Cross to sing songs and enjoy the overlook:

 To close out the night we had a bonfire, complete with s'mores!

And with that, Wednesday was over. What a long, full, fun day!
