Wednesday of Camp One was sunny and beautiful - a great change from Monday. We started out the morning heading out on our day trip to Sewanee. We incorporated a hike from Morgan's Steep to the Cross into our chapel program and talked about God's presence through nature and listening to God's voice in nature.
After we hiked, we ended up at the Memorial Cross overlook. The kids spent time reflecting in family groups about the hike and nature:
After a picnic lunch we changed into swimsuits to swim at "the Res", which is a reservoir on St. Andrew's Sewanee School's campus.
We also spent some time on Sewanee's campus playing frisbee, kicking the ball around, and visiting the bookstore. It was a beautiful afternoon.
After showers and naps all around, that night we had our traditional taco bar dinner and then went to All Saint's Chapel back on Sewanee's campus for our evening prayer service.
Needless to say, it was a fun full day of playing, learning, and growing!! That's all for now, until next time...
Tuesday morning we woke up to beautiful fog rolling in on the Mountain. After a rainy Monday, the fog signaled the shift we would see to a pleasant but overcast Tuesday.
For morning chapel we played some music and then focused on bible verses as ways God speaks to us through scripture.
In the afternoon a group went rock climbing, a group hiked and swam Foster Falls, and a group stayed on campus to play games. Here's the football playing group:
Tuesday night brought Counselor Hunt. The counselors dressed in all sorts of silly outfits and hid on campus for the campers to find them. If found, the campers got to push the counselors in the pool.
While we waited for it to get dark we played a favorite game of the campers, Magic Tambourine. In this game, music plays and the person with the tambourine gets people to link up and dance with them until they drop the tambourine and the music stops - last person left standing is the next person to have the tambourine.
Then it was time to hear about Counselor Hunt. Here's the staff explaining boundaries and rules before scattering to hide:
And once the game was over (3 counselors were found, 3 escaped a push in the pool), we had snack and compline before heading to bed.

Monday of Camp One was very rainy but that didn't stop us from kicking off the week with some fun!
We started with chapel program in the morning - lots of singing and then some discussion on our chapel topic: listening.
The rain did keep us from our hike but instead we played games, sports, baked, did some drama, art-ed and craft-ed, and jammed to some music. It was a full afternoon and the kids didn't want for entertainment.
That night we had the traditional Cabin Olympics. The teams did synchronized swimming, relay races, name that tune, counselor trivia, and tug of war:
By the end of Cabin Olympics more rain was rolling in so we headed inside and had a movie night, watching Fantastic Mr. Fox, which fit right in with our theme of listening:

Sunday was the last day of Pre-Camp but also the first day of Camp One so our staff spent the morning saying goodbye to our Pre-Campers and then got some last minute details done for our high school kids before they showed up to registration at 2pm.
We sang Country Roads in the chapel before handing out t-shirts and pictures. Saying goodbye to our littlest campers was hard but we had so much fun with them!
After the pre-campers left the staff had a quick meeting before dividing and conquering the next things to do. Cameron and her daughter made these cute finger puppets for the staff so of course we had a photo op with them!
In getting ready for Camp One, one of the things to do was make cabin clean up charts. The girls are very organized with cabin clean up and make a weekly assignment chart. Based off that, Phil made one for Cabin 2 that mocked the girls:
Then the kids were arriving and it was time for registration!
It was drizzling rain but we went on with the swim test anyway - the lifeguards were very excited:

Sunday night we had an opening Eucharist, which we shared with the Dubose board, who were here for their summer meeting.
And then we introduced the staff and signed the covenant before breaking off into family groups for the first time.
This particular covenant has been used since 2005.
The remainder of the night was spent in the cabins getting to know each other.
