The end of Camp 2!

I know it's a little late, but I figured everyone wanted to see these awesome pictures from camp 2 anyways! So here's what happened Thursday and Friday of Camp 2!
Morning chapel was spent talking about the ways that God is illuminated in other people- both in their gifts and the ways that we amplify those gifts in each other. We finished our time by washing each other's feet and serving each other in the manner that Christ said is the full extent of his love.

In the afternoon we continued this attitude as we went to St. Mary's to serve our community by helping them in their garden as well as tending to the lavender fields. We weeded, gardened and then gathered the lavender that was taken to Thistle Farms in Nashville to be used in their products!

Thursday evening was spent in the ever-so-famous CGM Coffee House (no real coffee was served in the making of this production.) All of our youth were able to share their talents with us with everything from drama to singing, piano and more!

Friday morning we woke up and after the daily breakfast and cleaning time, we went to chapel to talk about the light that shines in each of us. Often times it can be hard to see that light in each of us and it was also fun to have our friends help point out that light. We played a very fun game called "Holy One" where each camper has a candle and the counselors (mean ole things!) are trying to blow them out. Don't worry, we played outside as to not risk any buildings!

Finally the afternoon brought a fan favorite- going to the Res at St. Andrews Sewanee! We can jump from the rock- literally taking a big leap of faith- hang out on the dock, swim around and have tons of fun!

Of course at night we had our closing Eucharist, banquet, dance and bonfire. Thank you Father Terry for celebrating a beautiful service!

Thank you to our Camp 2 families and youth for letting us have these amazing youth for a week! We had so much fun with them and they are all so full of light! It was a joy to watch them shine!
Camp 3 is here so we shall be posting about them soon!

Camp 2's Tuesday and Wednesday!

Camp 2's Tuesday- try saying that five times fast (I did, trust me it's not pretty), but our Tuesday at camp couldn't have been prettier! It went a little like this-
Breakfast and cabin clean up lead to chapel- where we talked about how God is illuminated in scripture for each one of us. We talked about the story of Jesus being transfigured on the mountain and reflected on how that story- and the stories in the Bible still can affect us today. Each youth was given a paper light bulb to decorate with their favorite verse- it made for a beautiful strand in the chapel!

We sang some songs, played magic tambourine and of mot importantly learned the CGM line dance! Now we are all ready for the dance Friday night!

With full stomachs from lunch and a little rest from siesta we continued on to our afternoon activities- which included going off campus to the Shakerag hike and staying on campus to do things like tie dye and swim!

The evening brought the ever-so-famous counselor hunt! The youth made up some excellent charges of things our staff are certainly guilty of and those who were found got pushed in the pool!

Wednesday was a little bit more serious as far as chapel goes when we talked about finding God in the darkness. It was so great to watch the youth find that even in the darkness we will never be alone, God is always with us!
In the afternoon we took our trip to Sewanee! We ran around and played at the quad, stopped by the bookstore and hiked the Tennessee Williams trail to the cross. It was so fun!

At night we went to All Saint's Chapel in Sewanee to have a little evening service. I have rarely seen a more beautiful sight than these 80 youth praising God in that beautiful space!

Thursday here we come! How did we get in to the last bit of this week so fast?

Camp 2 is rockin and rollin on the mountain!

Hello all! We can't believe that Camp 2 is already here and movin and shakin! We've had a blast in our first 48 hours! Here's a summary of what we've done!
We started with a big ole game of Do You Love Your Neighbor- it includes a lot of running and laughing, perfect for this big and fun crew!

After dinner (lasagna- yum!) we got to know our family groups and play some games together, which was awesome. Next up on the docket was a game of Capture the Flag in the field- always a fan favorite!

The yesterday morning (Monday) we had breakfast and cabin clean up before Father Terry Street led us in a beautiful opening Eucharist. It was so fun to hear a little bit more about our theme and worship and sing together! There is so much joyful noise with this group!
We spent the rest of the morning swimming and playing kickball- quite the combo for our youth!

Once we had lunch and a nice long rest for siesta we went to afternoon activities- both on campus and off! Several campers went to Foster Falls where they got to swim or go rock climbing with the South Cumberland State Park Rangers- thanks Ranger Jason for taking us!

On campus we spent time at the art barn, playing soccer, doing a little bit of experimenting with science and baking just to name a few!

After dinner we spent time talking about how God is illuminated in creation for us. Since we are in such a beautiful area it is easy to see all the ways God reveals himself in nature to us. Each youth also contributed a pebble to the stone altar- funny how every little stone makes a difference!

After chapel we had the famous cabin olympics! With events like a Raisin relay, 4 legged race and name that tune (name that tune waved to the blog last night!)

Finally we ended with the Camp Gailor-Maxon prayer and a big thank you to Brown Myers for leading us all in that special prayer!
