Wednesday is "Sewanne day" around Camp Gailor-Maxon. Monteagle is down the road from Sewanee, where the University of the South is located. The campers love going over into Sewanee and we have some special times there.
In the morning we had our chapel time. We started off with singing songs:
Then the family groups went on a scavenger hunt to experience things in the active and contemplative life:
Also we have one small group with a special purpose - our GAP staff group is getting trained this week to come back for the next two weeks as volunteer staffers through a counselor development program. These four girls have just graduated from high school and are headed to college. Lizzy Holt, former counselor and amazing person, is leading their group training.
After the "hunt" we were back to the chapel for more songs and some games:
Then after lunch it was time to head to Sewanee!
We visited the Res, which in on the campus of St. Andrew's Sewanee:
We also went into Sewanee where we played on the quad and visited the campus.
We went back to campus for dinner and showers before coming over to All Saint's Chapel on Sewanee's campus for a night service.
Bishop Johnson led a service that was a service of pilgrimage. It included contemplative time, songs, prayers, and a mini-sermon.
After the service we came back to campus for our bonfire. We served s'mores, which we make in the oven:
We told ghost stories and hung out around the fire, soaking in the laughter, friends, and fun.
Can you believe Camp One is more than halfway over? It is flying by!
Until next time...
